★ Best Travel Destinations Down Under ★

This is the definitive guide to all the best places & authentic experiences across Australia from the outback to the beach, from its casually confident cities to its ancient indigenous culture.

It offers insider tips on how to engage with Australia’s remarkable landscapes, its idiosyncratic locals & its utterly bizarre wildlife.

It is NOT YOUR TYPICAL APP:
* It is opinionated, jam-packed with info & pragmatic advice you won’t find elsewhere.
* It is a big app for a big continent, but it is not encyclopaedic. Rather it distils the best. Once a destination has made the cut, it gives you everything you need to enjoy it.
* It actually contains MINI APPS WITHIN THE APP. Many entries cover entire regions with bullet points on what to do, where to stay, eat & drink.
* When a resort, restaurant, or individual adventure is outstanding it gets its own entry with in-depth opinions on how best to enjoy it.

A few mechanics:
• I have organised entries by a range of tags, including States, On the Water, Outback, Luxury and more. Don’t miss the Hidden Gems!
• There are heaps of hyperlinks to videos & websites for more info.
• Under hours, I give opening hours PLUS the best season to visit. Australia's contrary Southern Hemisphere seasons can be confusing for visitors from the Northern Hemisphere.

Finally, I have avoided overly commercial destinations, which you can easily find with generic guides (or just follow the tourist crowd).
The App will be updated regularly (at no extra charge) as more great destinations emerge.

DC With Kids by FamilyiTrips

With 250 attractions, DC With Kids, FamilyiTrips, is the most comprehensive family travel app on the nation’s capital. Forget about searching through a confusing list of EVERYTHING. Our categories make it easy to discover the city’s top attractions, places to play and special experiences from sleepovers at museums to moonlight tours, spy missions, festivals and free attractions as well as find the best spots for burgers, cupcakes and pizza.

Washington Parent magazine praises DC With Kids, saying "Natives and tourists alike will find DC With Kids, FamilyiTrips, a handy tool, with features including Top Attractions, Plan Ahead, By Ages, Special Tips, Fun Facts, Play Outdoors, Eat, Shop, Free, Side Trips and Maps."

Written by a long-time Washingtonian, DC With Kids engages children with its Fun Facts, whimsical illustrations and playful icons. DC With Kids aids parents by providing important planning tips. Our icons pinpoint those exhibits best for young kids, grade schoolers or teens, making it easy to create an itinerary that matches your family’s needs.

Features: 250 attractions, hundreds of photos and illustrations.

*Top attractions. Since you can’t do it all in one visit, see our picks for those with limited time.
*Plan Ahead. These essential tips prevent you from being disappointed whether you want a White House tour or a hands-on session at Spark!Lab, National Museum of American History.
*By Ages. Your four year-old is whining, your fourth grader is bored and your teenager wants to know why he had to come on this trip. Stop the insurrection by finding attractions that engage each group.
* Fun Facts. Kids (and adults) love odd facts. Such tidbits are great for starting conversation with your kids and for getting them interested in exhibits. What was the strangest package ever sent? (a 4 year-old girl.) Find out who sent her and why in our National Postal Museum write-up.
*Play Outdoors. Have fun paddling, biking, walking, riding carousels or horses, strolling gardens, cheering teams, playing golf and ice skating.
* Favorites. Create your own itinerary by listing what you want to see.
*Eat. Discover the best cupcakes, pizza, burgers, food trucks as well as restaurants for more leisurely dinners.
*More. Been there, done that? Repeat visitors as well as locals find additional attractions and experiences.
* Free. Many of DC’s top attractions are free. Use this icon to identify the budget-stretchers.
*Side Trips. Have an extra day or even an afternoon? Consider visiting George Washington’s estate Mount Vernon, the Civil War battle site Antietam or nearby Annapolis or Baltimore.
*Sleep. A hotel with a pool is always a bonus for families so we’ve listed these as well as additional family-friendly lodgings.
*Map. Every entry has Metro directions and a fully interactive map that connects your location to your destination.
*Add a comment. We welcome your comments.

DC With Kids works on an iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

Download iTunes app link Road Trip 66

Get your kicks on “Road Trip 66". This is a GPS-based travel app that takes you on the open road on America’s original “super-highway”. Featuring almost 1,400 sights — diners and cafes, cool old neon signs, Mom-n-Pop motels, homemade attractions, relics of days gone by, and many more classic examples of pure Americana.

Today, Route 66 is no longer a single road — sadly time and interstates have re-routed it and by-passed the original multiple times. "Road Trip 66" takes you along the various routes it once followed, with landmarks and bits of trivia all along the way. Zoom in the maps and see the various alignments. Perfect for anyone who loves to get in the car and explore!

You won’t find the “typical” spots found on most travel apps - no run-of-the-mill fast food joints (unless they have a UFO or giant being on the building). Any app can give you a phonebook listing of what’s nearby. Road Trip 66 gives you the hand-picked offbeat attractions that make taking the back roads a lot more fun!

Let “Road Trip 66” be your guide along the Mother Road through the following states:

Illinois - Start here...well, traditionalists prefer you do. From Lou Mitchell's classic Chicagoland diner to the Chain of Rocks bridge over the Mississippi, Illinois 66 is a great way to begin your journey.

Missouri - St. Louis's crazy quilt of alternate 66 routes, each with it's own charms, soon opens to the lush Missouri countryside of rolling hills and great relics of the past.

Kansas - Shortest state section (only 13.2 miles) with a lot more to see than you think, including the inspiration for Tow Mater from "Cars" and the iconic Rainbow Bridge

Oklahoma - The longest stretch of Route 66 (396 miles) with quite a few sections of the original Portland concrete paved (and narrow) road, plus a giant blue whale!

Texas - From the Texas panhandle on to California, you’re heading due west. Classic road architecture, Cadillac Ranch and a great big sky await you.

New Mexico - Here the Route gets varied...flatlands to the 9-mile Climb, arroyos and mesas. Sunsets are stunning, and Albuquerque is full of great old neon motel signs.

Arizona - An incredibly scenic portion of 66-- with the Petrified Forest, nearby Grand Canyon, the Meteor Crater, remote desert relics as well as begging burros.

California - Ya gotta go through the Mojave Desert--many still chose to travel it at night for the cooler temps and brilliant Milky Way. The final stretch rewards you with a stay in a concrete Wigwam and the Santa Monica Pier.

• Easy to use
After you open the app, you will find yourself on the map. Just slide over to wherever you would like to start along the route. Zoom in, touch the color-coded icon and find out more about whatever tickles your fancy. Not interested in foraging for food? You can also customize the screen to show only the categories you are interested in finding.

Just pinch to navigate the map, swipe to scroll through the listings, slide to pick categories, flick to see more photos. Tap any point to get more detail.

• Easy to search
Maps? Listings? Attractions? Choose your way to search through the tons of geo-coded points of interest (POIs). Every listing is text-searchable, or you can pick a location and see what is around. Street addresses and one-touch phone numbers.

Thousands of images – See what you’re getting yourself into!

Looking for other offbeat adventures? Be sure to check out the other apps from the “Best Road Trip” travel series.

Maui GPS Tour Guide

Price $2.99
Download iTunes app link Maui GPS Tour Guide

The Maui GPS Tour Guide talks to you as you drive around Maui. It's like having a local expert with you in the car as you explore the island.

✓ Discover Maui's Hidden Attractions
✓ Learn about the Island's History, Geography, and Animals
✓ Hundreds of Points of Interest
✓ 5 Tours to chose from Covering the Whole Island

Using the GPS built into the iPhone or iPad 3G, the Tour Guide knows exactly where you are and alerts you to hidden beaches, scenic lookouts, historic sites, hikes, waterfalls, snorkel spots and all of Maui's most interesting tourist attractions. You'll also learn about Maui's history and geography.

★ The Only App of it's Kind for Maui ★

The App is split into two parts: the base application, and the GPS tours. If your device doesn't have a GPS (iTouch, or iPad WIFI-Only) you can still purchase the base app which includes the following:

• Comprehensive beach and snorkeling guides.
• Guides for Maui's hikes, waterfalls, and scenic attractions.
• Interactive map showing exact locations.
• Text directions to attractions.
• Weather and surf forecasts.
• Maui background information: regions, maps, weather statistics, safety guides and more.

Optionally, you can also purchase 5 GPS Tours from inside the App as an In-App purchases, and have Tour Guide talk to you as you drive around. The 5 tours cover:

• The Road to Hana and Beyond
• Haleakala National Park and Upcountry
• West Maui including Historic Lahaina
• South Maui from Kihei to La Perouse Bay
• Central Maui and Iao Valley State Park

The App gives more information about each. Please see the "Top In App Purchases" section for pricing. The Central Maui Tour is unlocked for Free with the purchase of any other tour.

★ The Maui GPS Tour Guide is the Absolute Best Way to Discover Maui! ★

Note for iPod Touch and iPad WIFI-Only Users:

You may still purchase the optional Tours, but because your device doesn't have a GPS, the Tour Guide doesn't know your location and can not talk to you as you drive. However, you can still examine the Tour Guide's points of interest on the Tour map, and play the audio associated with each point. This works when you have a good idea of your location, for example, the Historic Lahaina Walking Tour.

Note about Cell Phone Coverage and Data Roaming:

The Tour Guide works without cell phone coverage. The GPS has clinical precision everywhere on Maui. International customers can turn off data roaming. A network connection is used, when available, to update the map, but this map can be cached before heading out on a trip.

REVIEWS FEEDBACK:

A couple reviewers note problems with the GPS/map not working. This happens when you deny the App access to use your current location, which turns off the GPS. Version 1.2 includes warnings to make it clear when your GPS is turned off.

One reviewer complains that the Hana Tour is boring!? The Tour Guide was designed to be informational rather than entertaining. You won't hear the Guide make jokes, play music, or keep you company with trivial conversation. The focus is helping you discover Maui's attractions and telling you about the island's history, culture, and wildlife.

FYI, the Hana Tour discusses virtually every attraction, and will recommend which ones to see and which to skip (since most only have 1 day for Hana). Many attractions are very difficult to find. That's where the GPS Tour Guide Shines!

CHP Traffic

Price $0.99
Download iTunes app link CHP Traffic

CHP Traffic gives you quick, real-time access to the traffic incident data provided by the California Highway Patrol. CHP Traffic uses public information provided by the computer aided dispatch office, so it's always up-to-date.

Want to check for accidents before you head out so you can choose the better route to take? Live in an area not covered by traffic data in Maps or your GPS so you need to estimate it yourself? Curious as to why your trip to work took an extra 20 minutes today? Need to check whether a Sigalert is still active? This application lets you do it!

CHP Traffic can:

• Use your current location to find traffic incidents near you.
• Show incidents for most metropolitan areas directly on a map (see note below)
• Exchange incident links with other CHP Traffic users via e-mail or SMS
• Retrieve detailed information from the CHP on any incident including when it originally occurred, whether CHP units have arrived, and whether the roadway has been cleared
• E-mail full incident logs for later reference
• Gain instant access to the CHP reporting regions you specify as your favorites. Save the regions you pass through during your commute to work, and you'll instantly know what your commute has in store for you
• Look up abbreviations and numeric codes used by the CHP
• Browse all active traffic incidents throughout the state of California

Features:

• Incidents for most metropolitan areas are viewable on a simple map. (see note below)
• Traffic incidents that are likely to cause significant delay are automatically highlighted in red; highlighting is customizable.
• Exchange links to incidents or full incident logs with friends.
• Incident location display uses a large, bold font for easy reading at a glance.
• Search for incidents using simple phrases or complex route filters; searches update live as incidents are created and retired by the CHP.
• Detailed incident logs are a tap away.

Please note that CHP Traffic groups traffic incidents by the CHP DISPATCH center and/or regional office that is responsible for them. For example, incidents in Goleta or Montecito would be listed under Santa Barbara (the name of the regional office) or Ventura (the controlling dispatch center), depending on where in the app you were looking. Rest assured that, taken together, the CHP district and regional offices listed in CHP Traffic cover ALL of California's highways. For more information, please see the FAQ section of our website at: http://apps.santosland.com/home/faq.

We want to hear from you! Having a problem? Can't figure out how to use CHP Traffic? Please give us a chance to address your concerns! Have a compliment or suggestion for improvement, please let us know! Visit our Facebook page (facebook.com/chptraffic), send us an e-mail or visit our website.

CHP Traffic uses only public information published by the California Highway Patrol. Please note that the CHP does not publish information about certain types of police actions (most notably, police pursuits), and therefore CHP Traffic cannot provide information on these incidents. SantosApps and the CHP Traffic application are not associated with the California Highway Patrol in any way. Always use common sense: never use this or any other application while driving.

Note: Support for showing incidents on a map is not yet available in all areas. Currently, the San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego major metropolitan areas are supported, as well as Bakersfield, Fresno, Sacramento, Stockton, Merced, Bishop, Chico, and Truckee. The Central Coast (Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Monterey) and Redding/Red Bluff areas are not yet supported, but rest assured that we are working on adding those areas in the future.
