Updated Oct 25, 2011
Price $1.99
Download iTunes app link Nervous System - iPad edition

NOTE: This app is not an "add on" to the Brain Pro (NOVA Series) - It is a stand alone app.

OVERVIEW:
This app has been designed specifically for the iPad. It is a must have app for anyone studying anatomy and is aimed at students with a basic to middle level of anatomical medical knowledge as well as medical professionals. It is far more interactive than flash cards with several amazing features (see below) and has an interactive quiz section for testing your knowledge of the nervous system.

NOTE: This application covers the nervous system that serves the body wall and extremities. This application does not cover the autonomic or visceral nervous system.

FEATURES:
•Ability to zoom in and identify parts of the brain, any nerve region or nerve.
•Ability to rotate the nerve or region for anterior, lateral, posterior and medial views, inferior and superior views are available where appropriate.
•Over 250 high-quality 3-Dimensional images.
•Over 850 flags that label nerves.
•Anatomical descriptions of 800 labelled parts.
•Labels in both English and Latin.
•A dual index that can search in both English and Latin.
•Ability to test yourself with a fun Quiz function.
•Change background color from black to white and vice-versa.
•A 'Home' button that takes the user back to the start screen.
•No internet connection required.

HOW TO USE:
The user is presented with a high-quality 3D model/image of the full nervous system. The user can zoom in to any area - by tapping on a region - tapping again will zoom in further - eventually the user will have zoomed into a individual nerve or nerve region. The user can then identify the different parts by pressing on the flags. Each label is in English and in Latin and by pressing on the 'i' icon the user can access additional information on a label. There is also a super Magnification Mode that greatly magnifies a nerve part allowing the user to press on flags that are close together!

INDEX:
The application can also be used as a visual reference tool by using the index: By simply selecting an English or Latin name from the index - the application will show the user where it is located - by zooming into the appropriate region and finding and labeling the item you requested.

VIEWS:
Throughout the app - even while zooming in - the user can get different anatomical views: anterior, lateral, posterior, medial and even inferior and superior where appropriate.

QUIZ:
This is a handy and fun testing section - the user is asked which area they would like to be tested on - and then the application asks them to zoom in and identify a particular nerve. If after three attempts the user is unable to identify the nerve - he/she can ask the app to show them.

One of the most innovative educational resources in the field, Radiology 2.0
presents teaching files in a way not previously seen; the 2.0 denotes the next
generation in interactive radiology education. Radiology 2.0 is a series of
cases that allow the user to simulate reading CT scans at a PACS workstation.
Extensive discussions following each case include labeled images that highlight
pathologies and relevant findings. Rather than use static images to teach
specific diagnoses, Radiology 2.0 uses stacks of CT images to actually teach
the reader how to approach and interpet CT scans. This incredible series is
available to the medical community at no charge whatsoever.

This intuitive teaching file series is perfect for Radiology residents preparing
for call, medical students in Radiology, and other physicians interested in
learning how to interpret images. All of the extensive content is contained within the app for offline viewing. You can now learn Radiology on-the-go and in the palm of your hand, even with a few minutes spare time throughout the day. Once again, it is completely free and provided as a resource for medical education.

Volume 1. One Night in the ED:

This teaching file is designed to introduce you to the CT appearance of basic Emergency Room pathology. Currently, this volume contains cases of common acute thoracic, abdominal, and pelvic pathologies. Each case is presented as a complete CT scan that you can scroll through as if at a PACS workstation.
Each case is then discussed in an interactive format. Important findings are highlighted with arrows, circles, and colorful schematics. Multiple examples
of each type of pathology are presented so you can learn by repetition.
Varied appearances of similar diagnoses are included. The first case in each
section has a comprehensive description of the featured disorder. Subsequent
cases utilize shorter descriptions and focus on the pertinent findings.

This volume includes over 7,000 high-quality images and hundreds of pages of html text.

Additional:
Dr. Daniel Cornfeld is an Assistant Professor of Diagnostic Radiology at Yale
University School of Medicine.

NOTE- This edition has been optimized for the iPad. We have designed a
completely separate edition specifically for the iPhone and iTouch. Please download the appropriate version for your device for best performance.

OVERVIEW:
The Brain Pro - Nova series app has been designed specifically for the iPad. It is a must have app for anyone studying anatomy and is aimed at students with a basic to advanced level of anatomical medical knowledge as well as medical professionals. In this Nova Series the user can manipulate the Brain on screen by rotating it laterally or vertically. The app also allows sectioned views which can be accessed by cutting the brain open with a finger swipe and the ability to add custom labels. The user can also change the transparency of various elements of the Brain to give phantom views which aid in identifying exact positioning. Colored schematics and an interactive quiz to test your knowledge of the Brain are also available.

3-DIMENSIONAL:
The Brain can be rotated by dragging the finger across the screen or spun with a swipe of the finger. The user can also zoom in or out by 'pinching' the screen. Rather than just the standard anatomical views, you can now observe the location of a Brain component from different angles.

PINS:
The standard anatomical views are also offered as reference points. Each view can be labelled and each label has a description.

INDEX:
By pressing the index button the user is offered an index of the pins available. If a pin name is selected the app will take the user to that pin and label it.

SECTIONED VIEWS:
Transverse, Coronal and Sagittal cross sections are also available again with full labeling.

INTEGRATED LAYERS:
The Brain model is comprised of eight different layers, from the Dura Mater down to the Thalamus. By pressing and holding on the Systems icon the user is offered an options window where the opacity of each layer can be controlled. This can offer the user different comparative or phantom views, for example - the position of the Ventricles within the Cerebrum.

SETTINGS:
The reference app can be further customized by using the settings button to turn on and off individual pins. This feature is as a direct result of user feedback.

QUIZ:
The user can test their knowledge against this interactive quiz. This is a dynamic quiz in that there are not a set list of questions but rather the app randomly selects labelled areas within the app and automatically produces a multi-choice question based around that label.

It’s time to upgrade your Broselow Tape. Get SafeDose.

SafeDose is your "second check" – like having a trusted pediatric pharmacist (or Doctor Broselow) looking over your shoulder to make sure any dose you give to a child is accurate. Avoid the frustrating ten-fold dosing errors that can lead to "death by decimal point."

iMedicalApps said SafeDose is "useful and well designed... Undoubtedly, the potential for medication errors would be reduced if practitioners were to rely on the information provided by this app". Web search for “iMedicalApps SafeDose” to see what this prominent review site has to say.

SafeDose is:

Easy to Use
Simply select the child's weight range or Broselow Color and then choose your drug and indication from a list. SafeDose displays the standard dose in mg and presents the mLs to administer for the selected concentration. This information can be used to doublecheck that physician orders are in the correct range.

Comprehensive
Unlike other medical dose calculators, SafeDose also provides mixing, preparation and administration instructions. It also shows adverse affects and other information.

Accurate
Doses are chosen by drug and indication. Visual cues and scroll-and-click selection rather than typing help ensure correct entry of weight or length. These and other built-in features prevent error.

Content You Can Trust
All the content is peer-reviewed and was developed by Dr. Robert Luten and Dr. Jim Broselow, both leading authorities in acute pediatric care. The Artemis Initiative is a joint effort of eBroselow and the Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group to develop an international standard for pediatric dosage. SafeDose utilizes content from the Artemis web product which has been out for over a year and licensed by over 125 hospitals. Artemis is an enterprise-level web and now iPad application that has been used extensively by thousands of doctors and nurses and has already garnered publicity for saving lives (see www.ebroselow.com).

CPR 101 from Philips Healthcare

Are you prepared to provide life-saving Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in the event of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA)? This app will guide you through the steps required to help save a life. It will also introduce you to the benefits of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). For the best chance of survival from the most common cause of SCA, a shock from a defibrillator should be delivered to a victim within the first few minutes of collapse.

Make the most of CPR.

Studies have repeatedly shown that CPR plus defibrillation within 3–5 minutes of collapse improves survival from sudden cardiac arrest. Philips HeartStart is the #1 AED sold, worldwide. Use this app to find out which Philips AED is the right one for you.

This application is to be used for educational purposes only. CPR illustrated in this application is based on 2010 AHA and ERC guidelines and recommendations. This is not to be considered CPR/AED formal training or certification. Nothing takes the place of hands-on practice.

For demonstration purposes, the rescuer is not using a barrier device while giving ventilations. Use of a barrier device is recommended when performing ventilations.
